timmy Lily
Now when more than 24 hours has passed after the Paper 2 exam in English A Langauge & Liteature, does anyone know what IB meant with the fifth Paper 2 question that stated the following: "Discuss the role of non-human elements in literature in at least two works you have studied". With non-human element, does IB mean concrete objects, such as a stove, an animal, a tape-recorder etc? Thank you in advance for the answer! shellziess
I found that question so unnecessary but they meant probably symbolism, such as the symbol of the colour green as hope (this is a made up example) but yeah, they were trying to hint at the stylistic feature of symbolism. timmy Lily
Phew. Good. That means that I did not make a fool out of myself. Do you think also count imagery, such as the imagery of a wild beast, as a non-human element as well. Reply
shellziess
I am pretty sure imagery, metaphors and similes fall into that category. But I seriously hated that question. Reply
timmy Lily
Which question did you pick, if I may ask? Why do you hate it? Reply
shellziess
Number 3, the one about destiny. I mean it was super vague and even tho I had symbolism in my works I could not write a lot. Of course it depends on the works you have available. Reply
timmy Lily
Which works did you have? I had Macbeth and Things Fall Apart and Pride & Prejudice. Edited May 6, 2017 by timmy Lily Reply
shellziess
You see these are great works to write about symbolisms and imagery. I had Persepolis, The Crucible and The Handmaid's Tale. I mean the Handmaid's Tale would work for that question but the other works wouldn't really fit. Reply
timmy Lily
How precisely did you connect them to Destiny? I do not know how to connect as of these works to Destiny (I have read Miller´s Crucible and Atwood´s Handmaid´s Tale). I essentially only wrote about symbolism. shellziess
Well for starters I wrote about Persepolis and The Crucible only and wrote about the main characters and how (or how not in the case of the Crucible) they control their destiny. However in terms of the Crucible I wrote that Proctor actually takes control of his destiny by the end of the play and chooses to die. Reply
timmy Lily
How much did you write? I think I wrote 9 pages. Reply
shellziess
I wrote something along the lines of 6 coz I could not write more. Reply
IBStudent98
I chose the inspirational one.. thought it was kinda alright as you can twist the question to fit what you already know etc.. However I had to use A Dolls House by Henrik Ibsen, StreetCar Named Desire and Carol Ann Duffy " A Worlds Wife" for my three texts.. Talked about the flaws present within society and oppression faced by women and how it is still evident within todays society.. Referred to Donald Trump too Reply

shellziess
Nah we did not choose Russia at all hahaha coz of the hard names. My HL is about interwar years, WW1, Paris peace conferences, League of Nations that stuff... Edited May 6, 2017 by shellziess Reply
