History EE- The British and communal Instability between Muslims,Sikhs and Hindus

So im kinda stuck and conflicted whether my research question for my EE is too broad. Im doing a History EE and I dont take history as a subject. My current Research Question is: To what extent were the British responsible for communal instability between Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus in India and Pakistan after partition from 1946 to 1947?

I really need help! I have to submit a draft of 2000 words in 4 days and cant seem to start. Is my question too broad...If yes, how can i narrow it down?
