turquoiseblue
Hi guys, I am starting to write my math IA on tumor growth modelling and have researched quite a few models on tumor growth. One thing that concerns me that models seem a bit complicated and don't know exactly which models are best for my level of maths. Though I have seen it on the list of suggested topics and I guess it's not high above my level. Please share any ideas and advice, and also good resources you may know about. I would really appreciate this a lot. Reply
ABKor752
Could you find data for the growth of a specific tumor in patients through time, and determine at which point, if at any point, would be the best time to begin treatment? Say that you find a curve that fits your data. Could you use calculus to find the point where rate of growth is the slowest, while still balancing with that point being as close to the start of the growth as possible? You could also use this method to determine at what point it is too late for general treatment to work, doing research as to what a lethal tumor and creating a second model of the effectiveness of the treatment and whether it is able to eliminate the tumor before extra growth begins... That was just a flood of ideas, but I think there is some potential. Since you are in SL, I could imagine you taking that idea of modeling and then using calculus capably. Not sure if this helped, but regardless, I wish you luck on your IA! Reply

HappyIB:)
Any model is good enough. Show the data and we can give you some more precise feedback. It will probably be an exponential or logarithmic model depending on whether it is growing or receding. Reply

Thank you so much!! Reply
