Hi, this year i'm going to enter grade 11 and start my IB diploma program.

I am aiming to study petroleum engineering in the future since i am great at chemistry. I was wondering if you can give opinions on 3 of the 6 subjects i have taken. Chemistry Hl, Physics SL, ESS SL. I am still not sure about the ESS... should i go for business, economy or even Design and Technology instead of ESS? All of these subjects are somehow useful.

Thanks for reading.

Taking two sciences is difficult, but given that you want to go into a science-related field, if you feel you can handle this then that is fine. I think you made a very good choice in not taking both chemistry and physics at HL; that would be too much. In terms of ESS, it counts as Group 3 and Group 4, so it seems like too much, given you are already taking two sciences. Perhaps one of the other three you have listed in place of ESS? Other than that, any of those three seem fine if you are motivated to take those classes.

Design Tech is Group 4 but you need a Group 3. I think Economics has the easiest IA. There seem to be some difficulty in teaching ESS as only about 1% of students get 7s. Applying to university-wise, economics should be the most useful, if at all.
