Sorry for the delay in responding, I just saw this post now. That's certainly a valid and interesting area. Analyze a certain type of propaganda. Maybe analyze TV adds, or news articles, or censorship, or Xi Jinping's speeches. Those are just some ideas to get you started.

Then, decide on a certain defining characteristic(s) and mold your research question around what you're trying to prove. It's kind of counter-intuitive but you should decide what you're going to prove first before writing your research question. And of course if you find that evidence supports different stuff you can always alter/change your question later. Good luck.

Sounds good to me. The effect/significance and the techniques/lit devices used to achieve it will be what you cover.
