eeebeee
I keep seeing different values. Does IB (2018) use STP or SATP and what are the values? e.g. is 1 atm 101.325 or 101 or 100 kPa? Thanks! Reply
Msj Chem
Both STP and STAP are given in the data booklet. It should be stated in the question whether to use STP or SATP. STP is 273 K and 100 kPa and SATP is 298 K and 100 kPa. When doing calculations using gases, you should use STP unless otherwise stated. 1 atm is 101325 Pa or 101.325 kPa - this was used by the IB in the previous syllabus which gave a value for the molar volume of a gas of 22.4 dm3. The new syllabus uses 100 kPa which gives a molar volume of 22.7 dm3. Edited March 7, 2018 by Msj Chem Reply
