aNewStudent
Hello, So to start I wanted to preface with the fact that I really wanted to do my extended essay in music since its one of the only subjects I'm passionate about. I am a musician and I have taken music appreciation at my local community college and am currently in music composition SL. As far as the topic of the EE goes I really wanted to do a comparison of modern pop song's lawsuits. In the essay, I would do an in-depth analysis of the compositional and theoretical aspects in the section of two pieces of music where one was supposedly plagiarized from the other. I would then compare the two pieces and come to a conclusion on whether the lawsuit was accurate, pulling from my knowledge of music history to see if the music was plagiarized. An example question would be: "to what extent was Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud a copy of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get it on and was a lawsuit warranted?" Does this stray too far from the music topic? and is it too specific? I would appreciate any help in how to approach or change my topic Reply
