sauswood
heylo! i just joined this website so not sure if im posting in the right place hahah sorry. Anyways, I'm writing my EE and I know what I wanna do, I have heaps of information but I'm not sure if my research question is good enough.... basically looking at how traditional European portraits of women were created for a (typically male) spectator, this is made evident by the submissive expression (majority of the portraits have it), the arrangement of the figure (is displayed to the viewer), the lack of hair (hair being associated with sexual parts/passion and the lack of it is minimalised so the spectator has monopoly) blah blah blah this video explains it a lot better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta-s_vzxWn8&t=771s anyways you get the idea so obviously over time, contemporary artists are changing the objectification of women and are able to actually assert subjectivity (whether it is a self-portrait or just a portrait)and i have plenty of examples of artists and artworks so idk at this point whether to make it about like: what techniques allow for the objectification of women in traditional European oil painting (or something similar) or: To what extent have contemporary portrait artists shifted the traditional relationship between viewer and artwork or like do I need to explicitly list an artist or two artists? It seems like a lot of people are referencing a specific person so i guess i should do that butttt i dont know. pleaselet me know what you think sorry this is so long ahh Reply
