rids_17
Hi there! I badly need a topic for IA in Math Studies. I have come up with this topic: temperature changes in a particular region for a year and see if it follows a sine curve or not. If yes, you can apply all the properties of sine curve , altitude , periodicity etc and study the temperature change is this valid? and does anyone know of any such studies and where i could find it on the internet thanks in advance! kw0573
This is very interesting. The data is readily available and you would have a good idea whether you are on the right track or not. Since most of what you have learned applied to linear regression or linear relationships, you can try plot arcsin or arccos of temperature, against time of year. rids_17
i have not studied arcsin or arcos graphs... Reply
rids_17
ummmm...as soon as i sat down to write my IA proposal, i found myself stuck. like, i gather the data from the internet. i take the average temperature reading for each month. so that gives me 12 readings to plot on a graph. i have temperature on the y axis and months listed on the x axis....but what after that? i am so confuseddd Reply
kw0573
I was saying that instead of graphing temperature vs month, you graph arcsin(temperature) vs month, in trying to obtain a linear graph and apply linear regression. It makes more sense to have temperature (or arccos whatever) on y and months on x. Reply
rids_17
okayyy...and applying linear regression will show me what kind of a relation exists between the two variables right? but then what after that..? like, what do i do Reply
kw0573
I am not going to tell you exactly what to do. I can tell you what one possible strategy is, which is to somehow linearize your data then apply linear stats. Reply
