catlovesdog
Hello everyone! Currently, I am in grade 11 IB and I am considering to drop out. Now, here are the conditions: My school doesn't provide Physics as a subject in IB (no HL, SL... nothing) We can't even choose our own subjects and their level This is the format of the subjects we are given: History HL, Chemistry SL, Math SL, English HL. Biology SL and French ab initio SL.....we cannot even choose our own language (it is either this or no IB at our school) I thought at least I could get the badge of an "IB" graduate but now I am regretting my decision. I definitely don't see a future with History HL or english HL, SLs in that could be good but definitely not an HL. But, my dilemma kicks in here, if I drop out of IB, my provincial average is not as high enough to be considered by a uni for an early admission. Dropping out of IB would be equally disastrous for me as if I continued with this crap offered at my school. We cannot even take any other subjects or even opt for a Math HL or a Chemistry HL. And I am more inclined to the sciences, thus I know this coursework I am doing at my school is definitely not what I need to get into a science program. I would really appreciate a constructive fresh perspective rather than my teachers telling me that doing these courses won't harm my application into a science program. Thanks! kw0573
Unless you need to get an early admission, the clear choice is to leave IB. In this case, the assumption is that you still have to fulfill most of your grade 12 credits. What grade 12 credits do you have so far, and where are you applying for university this fall? 1 Reply
catlovesdog
By grade 12 credits what do you mean? Also I am not sure regarding the university I want to apply in, I do want to apply in a Canadian university, but also in American universities as well, probably Ivy League? I am not sure, I am getting ahead of myself that’s for sure. Reply
kw0573
I don't have data across all provinces, but some Canadian universities only look at grades of pre-requisites as well as high grades up to some total. For Ontario applicants to Ontario schools, this is average from six courses (that includes all prerequisites). Many other universities use the cumulative high school average, and some may depend on which province the student is from. So if you intend to apply to a school that only looks at certain grade 12 marks, it is imperative to do really well in them if you still have an opportunity to , even if your marks are not as high in previous years. smarta392marist
Hi Everyone, I am currently in grade 11, year 1 of the IB program, and am unsure as to whether or not I should continue with the program. I am a US resident, with state citizenship, however, I am living abroad. I am the second class to take IB at my school, very much guinea pigs. I am not planning on going to any big name universities, but rather a state school. I have a 3.9 GPA, a 1350 SAT score, and cannot decide whether the IB program is worth all of the stress and hassle. Is the IB going to put me leaps and bounds beyond others in college? Will it help me in terms of scholarships to a great degree? These are all questions that I have. I am taking English Language and Literature HL, Psychology HL, Biology HL, Chemistry SL, Mathematics SL, and Japanese Ab Initio SL. I would greatly appreciate any comments, advice, or ideas. Thank You Reply
