Your own personal twist on something that has been done before is fine. For instance, lactase enzyme reaction rates would be very unoriginal, but your EE could be doing it on different local brands of milk products or something. So it's not original but it's got a twist on it which makes it your original EE that you've designed your own experiment. That kind of thing.
