AnIBHermit
A month away from the end of Year 1, and it's been two (maybe three?) weeks since we were asked to start thinking on our extended essay topics. I want to write an essay on the high fantasy genre. I've been researching about it for some time now, and I have somewhat of a topic ready (I think): "How and why does George R. R. Martin twist high fantasy genre tropes in his novel A Game of Thrones"—the first book in the series. The "How" and "Why" are pretty clear in my mind, and I've been writing down any points related to them. For now, I really only want to know your honest thoughts about this topic. Does it still feel too broad or too narrow, or too vague? Is "twist" not the right word? Am I missing something (hopefully not obvious)? P.S. I felt Martin's book to be the best choice for such a topic. I realize that there were certain authors before him who successfully tackled many high fantasy tropes and contributed to the revival of the genre, but I'm only most familiar with and passionate about Martin's books. Plus, his books are quite popular, so I'll probably find more research on them than on other, less popular high fantasy stories. Thanks for the help Reply
