MalaikaWauters
PLEASEEE HELP ME DECIDE If you've taken HL economics and/or HL chemistry (or know anyone that has), I need your opinion because I'm really indecisive. My other HL's are HL math analysis and approaches and HL biology, but I'm conflicted between HL chem or econs. I'm considering studying medicine (then specialising in either neuroscience or cardiology) or maybe finance. Is HL chemistry really as hard as everyone says it is? Could I still go into medicine without taking Chemistry HL? pls send help Edited July 30, 2020 by MalaikaWauters Reply
inriya
I have taken both Economics HL and Chemistry HL. Surely, if you study medicine, I would highly suggest Chemistry because it would be useful in your future studies. Likewise for Finance. In my opinion, I think Economics would be easier (Maybe it is due to my ability and lack of interest in Chemistry by the end of IBDP). Chemistry HL has a lot of content, and a lot of time have to be dedicated into it. Having taken two double HL science (Biology and Chemistry), I can feel a difference between Bio and Chem HL in terms of content, difficulty and requirements. I know I might not be very useful with this reply, but the only advice I can give is, make sure you look through the syllabus, find what you are interested in, before opting for the right HL to study. Cheers. Reply

Think about whether you like finance or neuroscience more, then if you are more into science, choose Chemistry HL. For neuroscience most of the universities require chem HL : https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2020/00617/bsc-neuroscience/entry-requirements/ I hope this helped you! Could I still go into medicine without taking Chemistry HL? pls send help it probably depends where you want to study, but chemistry is often (not always tho) required to study medicine, I don't know about many other countries, but if you're thinking of the UK, in general, it's best to have it, but if you don't, there are still about 10 med schools you can apply to without chem HL. I'm taking both biology and chemistry at HL since I also want to study medicine and I don't personally think chemistry is very hard, some of the topics are quite difficult (especially the HL extensions), but it's not undoable, I personally don't really enjoy the subject and the content, but it's not like you can't cope with it. anywya, even if in the UK (don't know about other countries), there are 10 med schools which don't require chemistry HL, I would advise taking it as otherwise this will limit your options. hope this helps, if you have any other questions, I'll be more than happy to help!
