dan9
hey. my math teacher says that when you give a final answer it should be to 3 significant figures. im just wondering if that still applies to normal distribution table values that are given to four significant figures. he said yes (they should only be given as 3 sig figs), but i'm not sure because the values are given accurately to four in the tables...does anyone know what the right answer to this is? or what do your teachers say? thanks. Vvi
I rounded mine to 3 sig figs when I used t-tests in my math project. I don't think 4 is necessary. Reply
deissi
It applies to normal distribution tables as well, since 4 digits is not a PRECISE answer. Use three for everything. Reply
biochem
I know where your confusing is coming from. In science you would look at the least amount, so in science that would be 4 significant figures. Here, since your dealing with mathematics - you need to do 3. Remember that. The significant rules dont apply to math IB. Only science. Reply
