Hi my porfolio is due in two weeks but i figured out that i do not want to cram it like the last one (i did the one on the logarithms in two days and my

score was indeed crappy - got 8/20 ) so i think of starting it early.

though im not through with most of the portfolio yet (or true to say that i havent started - just researched it and gathered some ideas), this two information startled me. its from one of the topics here about matrix binomials

between two persons though i cant track of who and who,

one person asked: I thought since M = A + B, wont M^2 = (A+B)^2? And not M^2 = A^2 + B^2?

and the other person answered that

he/she should try that out with real values and that both are the same i.e. (A^2 + B^2 = (A+B)^2).

i tried it out like for example M = 5, A=2 and B=3

M = A+B is correct since 5 = 2+3

and that M^2 = (A+B)^2 since 25=(5)^2.

but that person said that A^2 + B^2 = (A+B)^2

i tried it but how can 4+9 = 25?

or am i just doing the wrong thing from the start?

Are you using the values for the matrix, or just random numbers?

With just random numbers, it won't work. You have to use a and b as the coefficients of the matrices, as per the c/work question
