I think more appropriate phrasing might be:How is the theme of confession portrayed in ...However, that is still quite broad.Try, How is the theme of confession portrayed in [name] by [author] through [some device such as characterisation, use of language, use of lit device etc.]. - Maybe pick two device or something.
