Sandwich
More or less Holistic Judgement is the examiner's personal opinion of your essay. Bearing in mind they will have read a tonne of essays that day, it's pretty much how yours compares to everybody else's and whether yours is good or actually not all that brilliant relative to what other people have produced. Getting a 4 is more or less just making sure it's very persuasive, well-written, convincing andddd just generally anything which would make it of a very high "quality". It's called holistic because it's quite difficult to define, but we can all tell good from bad essays reading over them.It exists more or less for that reason - you can't really quantify quality, but it's there so they reward it with this criterion. 1 Reply
