jonathanc
hello there everyoneim doing my extended essay in chemistry and im researching the presence of acetlysalicylic acid in aspirin tablets and in a range of chinese herbs .i was just wondering if there should be a situation whereby i am unable to prove the presence of this acid in the samples i am testing , should i present in my EE that i have not been able to prove anything or should i just change the scope of my EE altogether (ie redo it with another research topic) ??thanks for the help ! sweetnsimple786
If you have justified reason to believe that there might be presence of this acid in the tablets and/or herbs, then you should be fine. The EE is about the research you undergo and the skills you gather. It's more than just content. =) And just because there's no acetlysalicylic acid that you've found doesn't mean that you've failed yourself/your EE and you did it all for nothing. You're supposed to try to be unbiased anyways and not expect an outcome. Reply
David Russell
I would also speak to your EE supervisor for input. As Sweetnsimple said, it is more about the process, and your ability to articulate the process and results, than about the actual results.Remember, your EE is a school project. You are unlikely to change the course of mankind, or discover something world changing in an EE (save that for when you do your masters/doctorate). It is really much more about your ability to objectively reason and research! Reply
