rainbow
Does the IB mark you down for spelling mistakes in subjects other than languages such as History? When I'm under time pressure I make some stupid spelling mistakes. I am quite worried that I'll lose marks.
HanoBee
No, I remember the teacher saying that they don't focus on the spelling when it comes to subjects that aren't languages. So I think you should be safe. History needs very good time management I doubt they'd keep in mind the spelling mistakes when all students are in a hurry. CommeDesEnfants
What about spelling of words like "Lebensraum" and "Volksgemeinschaft?" I tried my hardest to remember, but sometimes your best efforts don't shine through when you're trying to write faster and faster and your hand is slowly dying. soadquake981
I actually read somewhere in an IB history document that they really hate when candidates spell important key words wrong, like the ones in German that you mentioned.
Ruan Chun Xian
They get annoyed but they can’t really legitimately take away points for it. Besides penalising you for misspelling “Volksgemeinschaft” when you’re writing in English is a bit pedantic. I'm sure my entire class misspelt the name of some ship sunk in the ...something, might be WWI or Cuban Missile Crisis, and nothing happened. We were forever misspelling it, got corrected by our teacher but just stuck. I still can't remember how it's spelt (and can no longer remember the name of the ship nor when it was sunk). What does that says about the teaching...
CommeDesEnfants
The Lusitania? Frankly, spelling is my least concern - I'm doubtful that they'll even be able to read my writing!
Ruan Chun Xian
Yes that's the one! I think I called it the Luthanasia Haha true, you should be more worried that they might not be able to recognise the letters to realise you spelt it wrong

Amber
I really do think it depends on the teacher, but in time-stressed situations they judge less, but you shouldn't make too many mistakes. One point is that it distracts the reader from the piece.
Ruan Chun Xian
The OP is asking whether IB examiners mark down, and according to their policy they should not, unless they absolutely can't understand what you're talking about because of spelling mistakes.
